Namaste Mohan

As you are familiar with nature cure you know that there is only one disease and only one cure.

The best diet for diabetes is going completely into raw food. Eat only when hungry and never over eat. Give enough rest to the digestive system by listening to it and eating only when hungry. Not eating after sun down goes a long way as our digestive system goes into rest mode. So to let it relax and do its other cleansing and healing activities when the body and mind relaxes.

Be happy be healthy always

Namaste Mr Mohan if it is for your grandma then i think she might not be too happy to be on a 100% raw food. In that case you can put het onto Fruits for breakfast and dinner. Lunch could be millets based like kambu, solum, ragi, gudaraivali, thinai, samai etc with steamed veggies, with least spices and oil. Kanji or kuzhu would be light on the digestion. Keep off rice and wheat completely. This too could go a long way in keeping the sugarlevels under control. physical activity as much as is comfortable for her would be very supportive. may she live happily and healthily.

Diet Plan for Diabetes:

1. Try to replace white rice with brown/red rice - Rice is a staple grain in most parts of India White rice has a high GI, which is very detrimental to diabetes. On the other hand, red or brown rice may not be as tasty as white rice but they are healthy and rich in fibre and various nutrients and also less in GI compared to white rice. The red/ brown rice keeps your stomach filled due to high fibre content and also avoid snacking in between the meals

2. Try to whole grains- Whole Grains likee grains like oats, wheat is a great choice when you prescribe a diabetic diet. Quinoa, which is gluten-free, is a great addition for your diet as it is very high in protein, fibre and low in sugar levels!

3. Eat more high fibre veggies- Consuming Fibre is very much essential for your diet because as it helps to maintain a healthy digestive system. Fibre present in vegetables prevent blood sugar shooting up, which makes it ideal thing for people living with diabetes. Consume more green leafy vegetables, beans and peas to get your daily dose of fibres which could prevent getting hungry soon.

4. Consume pulses and legumes - Consuming pulses that are rich in protein, fibre and these have a low glycemic index which makes them safe to include in a diet for a diabetic patient.

5. Consume fenugreek seeds/ powder -
Fenugreek seeds/fenugreek powder can lower your blood glucose levels as the elements present in it helps to release insulin from the pancreas. It is best practice have a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds with warm water or mixed with buttermilk

Bonus tips to control diabetes

1. Consuming an apple before going to bed could hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) at night.
2. Drinking one tablespoon of gooseberry or amla juice every morning could reduce the oxidative stress inside the body.
3. Exercising every could be a great practice to reduce the blood sugar levels, increase the insulin sensitivity, enahnce weight loss, and also improve the functions of the various systems

Hello Dr Sangeeth. I think wheat should be avoided, its better to switch to millets instead. Replace wheat rotis with besan chilla or dal or sprouts based chillas, ragi roti, etc. Read this journey, its very interesting - https://www.wellcure.com/health-journeys/25/how-i-managed-my-gestational-diabetes-without-medicines

You are welcome.

If it’s for your grandma then she may not be very happy to change her lifelong habits. If she is very much attached to cooked food then you can give her three meals a day. First being fruits. Second could be a millet based food like ragi, bajra, jwari, thinai, saamai, varagu, gudaravali etc.  and evening could be half steamed and half raw veggies Salad or fruits again. Removing all dairy and animal products is a must. Hope she likes this way of eating. Having one cooked meal also will make it easy for her to follow. Wheat and rice should be avoided completely.

Dear Mohan,

Thanks for your question..

Firstly you need to eliminate all processed foods and Carbohydrates such as Sugar, Rice and grains based foods.

You need to go for clean plant based food. In fruits please only go for berry diet which includes, Strawberry, Blueberry, Raspberry etc.

Also, you need to completely stop junk food from outside.

For now try this for a month and monitor your sugar reading.

Regards

06:58 PM | 12-08-2019

Mohan .. you know it already. A whole food plant based diet with no fats will do the trick. Ask them to wean their meds slowly by taking daily  readings. Focus must be on quitting insulin asap. The longer on meds, takes few extra months. A completely fruit and juicy veg diet will do the body healing faster. Avoid wheat and gluten forever apart from the usual diary sugar jaggery meat eggs fish honey too. Oilfree gluten free cooking once a day preferred for slow healing and for rapid healing absolutely non starchy low fat ( no nuts seeds coconut etc )  raw diet . Yoga pranayama is necessary. Waking will help but it’s not a whole body workout imo.

A diabetes diet should be high on fibre, fresh seasonal fruits, green vegetables, etc.
One teaspoon of methi seeds soaked overnight in 100 ml of water is very effective in controlling diabetes

Whole grains, oats, channa atta, millets and other high fibre foods should be included in the meals.

High fibre vegetables such as mornings oleifera( drumstick tree)  peas, beans, broccoli and spinach /leafy vegetables should be included in one's diet.

Also, pulses with husk and sprouts are a healthy option and should be part of the diet.

Bittergourd juice

Bittergourd contains at least three active substances with anti-diabetic properties, including charantin, which has been confirmed to have a blood glucose-lowering effect, vicine and an insulin-like compound known as polypeptide-p.These substances either work individually or together to help reduce blood sugar levels.
