Unhappy with your circumstances or the people around you? Facing difficult times or relationship problems? Do you wish more happiness, abundance and peace in the world? Have you tried the magical power of blessings? What is the science behind it and how to start practising it to bring in a change in your life?
I want to begin this article by expressing my gratitude to Prof Krish Murali Eswar for teaching me this concept in 2016. Since I learnt it and started practising it, it has only brought magic into my life.
One of the easy ways to bring peace and happiness into your life is by giving more of what you think you lack. Sounds crazy? Absolutely not! Are you aware of what a positive effect you can have on yourself, others, and situations when you take a moment to bless them?
What is a blessing?
Hey, wait! Only saints, elders can bless youngsters, isn’t it? That’s not entirely true! Anyone can bless anyone & anything. We need to wish good for someone. That should come straight from the heart i.e. a place of LOVE. It can be a thought, a whisper, or spoken aloud.
Is this a fact?
Scientifically, it works on the concept of sound waves or thoughts itself that helps spread good. As quantum physics describes that we are all surrounded by objects and people made up of atoms in which electrons are constantly moving around the nucleus. This movement creates waves around it. There is an overlap of waves around each person or object. It means we are all connected. The video by Tom Chi (inventor and co-founder of Google X) gives more details on interconnectedness.
A wave coming from an object holds the characteristics of that source. If the wave comes from a human being, it carries the imprints of the thought, words and intentions of that person. It reflects the personality of the person. The waves can carry positive or negative energies. A wave can clash, reflect, refract, penetrate and interact with the destination/recipient. So when positive thoughts are sent, a part of that reflects back to the source, making the source more positive. If negative thoughts are sent, part of the wave reflects and poisons the energy field of the source too.
You create the world around you!
When you bless and send good thoughts to someone genuinely, you are automatically blessed by this universal law. If you direct anger at someone, you might have noticed the bad experience both the source and destination face. So the energies you send out as thoughts, words or actions always reflect back towards you. Thoughts of unconditional love, gratitude, compassion, blessing etc. have higher frequencies of vibration and thoughts of greed, jealousy, anger, hatred, judging someone etc. have lower frequencies. So the act of blessing can help oneself, bring positive energies in anything the wave touches, ultimately spreading out to the whole universe in all directions. In simple words, you have the remote control to create the world around you.
Is there any religious connotation to blessings?
It doesn’t matter whether you believe inGod, Earth, Universe or nothing. Even if you’re an atheist, you can watch this as a scientific experiment and test it for some days and then draw your own conclusions.
How to use the power of blessings in your life?
Whatever may be your current state – Poor, rich, happy, sad, jealous, angry, hateful, grateful, in love etc., the pre-requisite is that you have to make a conscious effort to make up your mind to bring back good into your life. With a good intention, start blessing someone around you – your spouse, kids, in-laws, friends, boss, animals, plants, and vehicle etc. One must be in a genuinely peaceful state to give good wishes to the intended recipient.
Just choose someone and mentally say this or say aloud 10-20 times daily - “May you be blessed”, “God bless you”, “Be blessed”, “Dear ‘name’ be blessed”, "Dear, ‘name’ I bless you with divine light, divine love and divine source energy”.
You can increase the power by swiftly visualizing the person being showered by a fountain of joy, happiness and luck.
In what situations can I choose to bless?
You must ideally choose to bless everyone and everything around you for your vibrations to be positive. If you can imagine a fragrant flower, it sends the same aroma to anyone – good or bad. That must be the ultimate way to practice living.
Some examples and situations to start with can be:
When a relationship is strained between two people.
When you think someone is giving you a hard time, genuinely blessing the other person improves the relationship over time.
You want to help someone see the right path, but you are unable to make them see the truth. In such cases, it's best to bless them and leave the rest to the automated ways of the universal law. Good will surely happen to them in ways you might not have anticipated.
Bless inanimate objects. The music system gives joy; the cooking gas stove helps you cook; there are many things around us that we take for granted. Take a few moments to bless them.
Bless the natural elements who are working hard to give us things that we take for granted - Sun, Moon, Ether (life-force/Akash), Air, Fire, Water, and Earth.
Recollect and bless the experiences good or bad that happened in the day.
Bless yourself – Blessing yourself is not considered a selfish act. When we bless, we are trying to raise the vibrations to create a better world around ourselves. So it’s an act of contributing to the welfare of humanity. Even if you have good relationships, take a moment to bless them.
Do not deprive people of blessings. As long as you are excluding some people from blessings based on a selfish motive, you are not in harmony with the universe. A true blessing comes from the same source as true love. True love doesn't care about what it gets in return; it just gives itself without calculation.
Send a mental blessing to all people that you meet throughout the day – and you will see that this day will soon turn into pure magic.
You can bless places and spaces you visited/plan to visit.
Bless your past, present and future with a feeling of gratitude and trust that everything is happening for you to make you a better person.
Bless this moment.
Bless forward in your day or week, especially if there’s an event you or your loved ones are participating in.
Bless the results of an upcoming event, whatever they might be.
Bless past situations, the “good” and the “bad”.
It is important to understand that you don’t expect anything in return or work on blessing with a timeline attached. I always think of it like a tumbler that contains energy. If you need to mend a relationship, you need to give enough of what you lack to see abundance. If you lack respect, bless and respect others despite their treatment towards you. Believe that the other person deserves the respect that you give because you are a giver.
