Course Overview

This course aims to provide a radical approach and understanding of Food, Health and Disease. The course is experiential in nature and empowers the learner to take care of personal health and help others in the family and society at large, to preserve health and prevent disease, through evidence based knowledge. 

The course is organized around a number of lectures, readings & discussions, video sessions and required assignment / project work. 

Whether one has little or no healthcare education or experience, or one is health conscious person looking for an edge, or adopt the learnings to complement your profession and teach your clients, my course module suits perfectly. 

Course Duration: 16 hours 

The relationship between food and health is a key focus of this module. This module will shift the focus away from reductionist discussions about nutrients and move, instead, towards practical discussions about real food and the environment in which we consume it. By the end of this module, students will have the tools they need to distinguish between foods that will support their health and those that threaten it.

5. Detailed discussion on 5 elements of Nature, as Food:

6. Study of macro and micronutrients, holistically with evidence:

  • Definitions
  • Functions
  • Food sources
  • Impact on the human system

7. Areas of troubleshooting, to “Eat healthy”

Ex: What to eat, When to eat, How to eat and How much to eat

8. How to design a nutrient-rich, healthy meal & discussion on its composition

9. Food groups: Right ways of using wholesome foods in each group

  • Cereals/grains
  • Grams/dal
  • Vegetables and greens

  • Animal products

10. Diet in Yoga Philosophy – Satvik, Rajasik and Tamasik foods

Project Work and Evaluation:

Project work/assignments will be practical adaptation of what is discussed in the class and students will be evaluated based on these assignments.
