Increased screen-time, reading, competitive academic environment, and lack of outdoor activities are leading to multiple eye impairments in all age groups. Myopia is the most common vision disorders in children and young adults. 

Dr. M. Sathish Kumar, Founder, School for Perfect Vision, Coimbatore believes that lenses or glasses only improve our vision and not the eyes’. The moment you remove them, you are unable to see clearly, isn’t it? This statement reflects how most of us opt for vision correction and not the overall health of our eyes. 

Eyes, like any other body part, need regular rest, exercise, and a good diet to work well. However, most of us don’t include eye health in our routine. Due to which we often develop vision impairments. A study conducted in Delhi by AIIMS revealed that 1 in 6 or 17% of children, aged between 5 and 15 are myopic and 1 in 7 adults are shortsighted. 

How are we Hurting our Vision?

Long screen-hours are to blame, yes. But, the wrong usage of screens intensifies the eye damage:

  • Blinking is breathing for eyes, and we forget to blink while looking at a screen which strains the eyes

  • Positioning screens/ computer in a corner or against a wall, obstructing the far-vision

  • Working in artificial light or bright light

  • Not keeping the screens at eye-level

  • Not absorbing enough sunlight

  • Less intake of Vit. A, E & K 

  • Ignoring peripheral vision (almost zero side-ways movement)

How can Dr. Sathish Kumar help?

Dr. Sathish Kumar has been working constantly towards the goal of eye health improvement in children and adults. He has developed a holistic program of vision improvement through exercises, eye massage, relaxation, and rejuvenation. His practice is based on the techniques developed by William Bates, the eminent 19th-century American ophthalmologist, who devised the Bates method of eye-exercises. Dr. Kumar has created the vision improvement program, combining the Bates method with the wisdom of some yoga traditions and his own therapeutic knowledge. He refines and customizes the techniques to suit different age groups and people with different degrees of eye defects. 

Dr. Sathish Kumar started the School for Perfect Vision in Coimbatore in August 2016, with the mission of helping underprivileged school kids from Tamil Nadu in improving their vision. Through his public awareness programs and rotary work, he has been able to train several teachers with basic techniques to improve students’ vision to create better learning environments for them.

Why have I never heard of this before?

Although the Bates Method has been around for over 100 years, the orthodox eye-care field has kept it out of the mainstream. How long will it take me to improve my vision naturally?

Who is the instructor?

A distinguished expert on eye health, Dr. M Sathish Kumar will deliver this program. He is the founder of the School of Perfect Sight. Established in Coimbatore in 2016, this school’s mission is to prevent vision problems and control myopia and hypermetropia. Dr. Sathish Kumar has coached over 8300 people across varied age groups, from children to elderly. He has also acquired a Masters degree in Physiotherapy(Sports Medicine and rehab) in 2008 from Dr. MGR Medical University.  

When does the course start and finish?

It is a 3-week program with Live group sessions to cover the fundamentals, nutrition, and relaxation aspects of eye health. There are 2 private sessions also. is completed in 3 weeks.

How much time do I need to put into this course?

At the start of your vision practice, it is a good idea to set aside 20-25 minutes a day, either all at once or spaced out throughout the day. Use this time to do vision-enhancing practices or resting your eyes. Once you are used to the routine, it takes only 10-15 minutes.

Is the program preventive or curative?

Both. It is designed to help you improve your current eye condition & to protect your eyes from degeneration with age and time. 

What is so special about the program vs a book or other eye programs?

Is this program effective via online mode?

Yes, online mode allows you to gain the benefit of the program while sitting in the comfort of your home. All instructions are delivered via live sessions.

A temporary WhatsApp group is formed for 3 weeks and every day for a few hours. Instructors are available to answer your queries.

Will I have to practice this forever?

It’s like developing muscle memory. However, in today’s world with excessive technology exposure, a maintenance program of 5-10 minutes daily is recommended.
