Detox 2019 - Week 4, Post 2

Let us have a look at Eggs today.

Though my parents were vegetarians and would not eat eggs, I was given eggs thinking that it is needed for strength and vitality and of course protein. I used to like eating eggs as omelet, egg curry and in cakes.

Egg on our face

Eggs for breakfast , eggs for body building, eggs for children – the egg industry has done a fine job of positioning eggs as a nutritious food so much so that it has become a part of everyday diet much like milk.

Too much of a good thing?

Dr John McDougall says this about eggs “Of all the foods commonly consumed as part of the rich Western diet, eggs contain the highest concentrations of cholesterol: eight times more than beef.”.

Eggs are a highly dense product which provides all the materials necessary to for a complete chick to develop with feathers, a beak, legs, and a tail.Concentrated foods are difficult to digest and assimilate. An egg is one of the richest of all foods and 'too much of a good thing’ is not necessarily good.

The ethical angle

A few words also about the ethical aspects of raising chicken for egg production. Battery chicken or egg laying hens are one of the most abused by the animal farming industry. Eggs are hatched by incubators and chicks never see their mothers on birth. And have you wondered what happens to male chicks? They are of no use to the egg industry and hence are ground up live or left to suffocate and die.

I would urge you to watch this video to know the truth which unfortunately is hidden from us.What's wrong with eggs?
