I am 32, I have anxiety and sometimes get panic attack, please suggest whether I should take medication and counselling or can I cure it in natural way?

Hello Sujatha,

With a nature's point of view, nothing becomes impossible, because nature has designed our body in harmony with sync in nature. What causes anxiety is the void in our life, whenever we feel unfocussed from our track there are a lot of things which hampers our day to day activity. Anxiety is caused by over-thinking, we generally think our mental issues is caused by mind but our food also has a special role to play in it. The kind of food we eat is the way we think. There are three types of food described in yoga which has its effect on mind. Sattvic food, eat light stay calm, Rajasik food like highly spiced, makes us overactive in everything and mind feel uncertain. Tamasik food which makes our body lethargic. Anxiety is caused by stimulants such as tea, coffee, which gives our body anxiety. By taking an initiative in a holistic way you can overall help yourself, that is why by taking a step towards holistic health you can effectively treat yourself in nature's way.

Eat:

Start the day with two-three glasses of warm water, this will help in flushing out the toxins and improve the state of metabolism by increasing it. The next thing is the inclusion of vegetable juice in your breakfast as this will help in giving the right amount of energy for the day. Keep at least two hours gap between your food and your sleep timing at night. You can also choose to have vegetable juice in your breakfast, it is an easier way to absorb all the nutrients. Mineral-rich food sources like seeds for example in evening soak chia seeds in glass of water for an hour, soak them and add one tablespoon of lemon juice. Consume it two hours after the meal, this will help in preventing mood problems. 

Exercise:

  • Taking a brisk walk in the early morning sun rays helps in treating all the problems, as the sun helps in treating the mood and freshens us for the whole day, it stimulates our system and strengthens our immunity. Early morning walk is recommended.
  • Suryanamaskar will help in treating the health issues and will help in dealing with all problems, 12 sets a day is recommendable. If you are a beginner start with 6 and increase it.
  • Sukhasana, Balasana, Shavasana are very much helpful, practice each pose 5-10 seconds after the session of Suryanamaskar.

Meditation:

Stop using the gadget on hour before sleep, you can use a fragrant diffuser where you can use essential oils and then with the smell itself you will start feeling calm. Rosemary and lavender oil will be helpful. During the episode of anxiety you can inhale it by putting two-three drops on handkerchief. Take 10 long deep breaths, and allow your body to relax, any thought which comes, let it go do not resist. Say the affirmation, "I am healthy and happy" with each breath. This will help in curbing all your issues even in the long run.

Sleep:

The sleep is a very important part of treating any mental symptom, a sleep cycle of 90 minutes should be completed in order to get a sound body. This sleep cycle should be repeated 5 times. This makes 7-8 hours of healthy sleep. This will make your body and mind strong and refreshing. Make sure your room is gadget free an hour before sleep.

Anxiety and panic attacks can be cured in a natural way and according to me it is the best way to treat every problem.
Being on medication will make you dependent on them but if the problem is very severe, you can go for them along with the natural practices because when we cure any problem in a natural way it is done from its root cause which results in a complete good health.

Anxiety is a very common problem nowadays because of the changing lifestyle and adaptation of sedentary lifestyle habits.

Reasons for anxiety and panic attacks:

There could be many reasons for the mental disorders like anxiety:

  • Constant constipation- continuous constipation results in the metabolism disturbance which affects the overall health including the mental health.
  • Hormonal imabalance- this also results in mental issues such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks.
  • Lack of nutrition- lack of nutrition leads to a disturbed body and mind balance. 
  • Lack of physical activities- constantly sitting and not doing any physical work is also the reason behind the mental issues.
  • Stress- In today's, busy lifestyle, stress is the main reason which effects our mental health .

 

Do:

Diet

Diet should be proper, nutritious and balanced. The foods should be digestible by the human digestive system like: 

  • Eat fresh fruits like pomegranate, banana, orange etc.
  • Have salads in your meals.
  • Eat fresh green vegetables. 
  • All the food that you eat should be plant based natural foods. 
  • Have nuts, beans, sprouts in your diet.
  • Drink coconut water. 

 

What not to eat:

  • Avoid dairy products like ghee, milk, paneer, curd.
  • Avoid tea and coffee.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks. 
  • Avoid animal foods.
  • Avoid refined oils.
  • Avoid oily, spicy, deep fried food items.

 

Exercise: 

Any kind of physical activity is very important for a healthy mind,  it may be yoga or any other simple exercises.

  • Do suryanamaskar daily. 
  • Tada asana, paschimottan asana, sarvanaga asana, gomukha asana are also beneficial .
  • Start your day by walking or jogging. 
  • Walk barefoot on grass in the morning.
  • Pranayam is also helpful. 

 

Meditation:

When it comes to any mental illness, meditation is the ultimate solution to everything. 

Do meditation daily for atleast 30 mins in the morning .

Perform meditation in open air between the trees for better results. 

 

Sleep:

  • Sleep on time at around 10 pm at night.
  • Don't sleep in the afternoon. 
  • Take proper sleep of 8 hours.
  • Wake up early in the morning at around 5-6 am.
  • Don't use any electronic devices before sleeping. 
  • Read books etc before sleeping. 

 

Habits:

  • Never skip your meals
  • Maintain proper hygiene. 
  • Take meals on time.
  • Sleep on time and wake up on time.
  • Take sunrays in the morning. 
  • Look at the blue sky in the morning as it gives a soothing effect to the mind.

3 अग्Iनि तत्व- सूर्य उदय के एक घंटे बाद या सूर्य अस्त के एक घंटे पहले का धूप शरीर को ज़रूर लगाएँ। सर और आँख को किसी सूती कपड़े से ढक कर। जब भी लेंटे अपना दायाँ भाग ऊपर करके लेटें ताकि आपकी सूर्य नाड़ी सक्रिय रहे।

4 जल तत्व- 4 पहर का स्नान करें। सुबह सूर्य उदय से पहले, दोपहर के खाने से पहले, शाम को सूर्यअस्त के बाद, और रात सोने से पहले स्नान करें। नहाने के पानी में ख़ुशबू वाले फूलों का रस मिलाएँ। नींबू या पुदीना का रस मिला सकते हैं।खाना खाने से एक घंटे पहले नाभि के ऊपर गीला सूती कपड़ा लपेट कर रखें या खाना के 2 घंटे बाद भी ऐसा कर सकते हैं। मेरुदंड (स्पाइन) सीधा करके बैठें। हमेशा इस बात ध्यान रखें और हफ़्ते में 3 दिन मेरुदंड का स्नान करें। मेरुदंड स्नान के लिए अगर टब ना हो तो एक मोटा तौलिया गीला कर लें बिना निचोरे उसको बिछा लें और अपने मेरुदंड को उस स्थान पर रखें। सर पर सूती कपड़ा बाँध कर उसके ऊपर खीरा और मेहंदी या करी पत्ते का पेस्ट लगाएँ,नाभि पर खीरा का पेस्ट लगाएँ।पैरों को 20 मिनट के लिए सादे पानी से भरे किसी बाल्टी या टब में डूबो कर रखें।

5 पृथ्वी-। सब्ज़ी, सलाद, फल, मेवे, आपका मुख्य आहार होगा। आप सुबह खीरे का जूस लें, खीरा 1/2 भाग धनिया पत्ती (10 ग्राम) पीस लें, 100 ml पानी मिला कर पीएँ। 2 घंटे बाद फल नाश्ते में लेना है।दोपहर में 12 बजे फिर से इसी जूस को लें। इसके एक घंटे बाद खाना खाएँ। शाम को नारियल पानी लें फिर 2 घंटे तक कुछ ना लें। रात के सलाद में हरे पत्तेदार सब्ज़ी को डालें, नारियल की गिरि मिलाएँ। लाल, हरा, पीला शिमला मिर्च 1/4 हिस्सा हर एक का मिलाएँ।इसे बिना नमक के खाएँ, बहुत फ़ायदा होगा।सेंधा नमक केवल एक बार पके हुए खाने में लें। जानवरों से उपलब्ध होने वाले भोजन वर्जित हैं। तेल, मसाला, और गेहूँ से परहेज़ करेंगे तो अच्छा होगा। चीनी के जगह गुड़ लें।

6.एक नियम हमेशा याद रखें ठोस(solid) खाने को चबा कर तरल (liquid) बना कर खाएँ। तरल  को मुँह में घूँट घूँट पीएँ। खाना ज़मीन पर बैठ कर खाएँ। खाते वक़्त ना तो बात करें और ना ही TV और mobile को देखें।ठोस  भोजन के तुरंत बाद या बीच बीच में जूस या पानी ना लें। भोजन हो जाने के एक घंटे बाद तरल पदार्थ ले सकते हैं।

हफ़्ते में एक दिन उपवास करें। शाम तक केवल पानी लें, प्यास लगे तो ही पीएँ। शाम 5 बजे नारियल पानी और रात 8 बजे सलाद लें।

7. उपवास के अगले दिन किसी प्राकृतिक चिकित्सक के देख रेख में टोना लें। जिससे आँत की प्रदाह को शांत किया जा सके। एनिमा किट मँगा लें। यह किट ऑनलाइन मिल जाएगा। इससे 200ml पानी गुदाद्वार से अंदर डालें और प्रेशर आने पर मल त्याग करें। ऐसा दिन में दो बार करना है अगले 21 दिनों के लिए। ये करना है ताकि शरीर में मोजुद विषाणु निष्कासित हो जाये। इसके बाद हफ़्ते में केवल एक बार लेना है उपवास के अगले दिन। टोना का फ़ायदा तभी होगा जब आहार शुद्धि करेंगे।

ये सब मेरे साथ भी हो रहा है enxiety और panic attacks से मैं भी पीड़ित हू आपके बताये नुस्खे भी मेंने सब करके देखे हैं कुछ फरक नहीं हुआ आखिर मनोचिकित्सक डॉक्टर की दवा लेने के बाद ही पैनिक अटैक काम हुआ और enxiety भी मुज़े लगता है दवा के बिना ये रोग ठीक नहीं हो सकता है.

Hey Sujatha,

1. As already mentioned deep breathing is especially useful during a panic attack. However its not always easy to concentrate on the breath when one is in that state. So try blowing into a paper bag repeatdly till the panic settles a bit. Therafter one can focus more on deep breathing. Even for deep breathing its helpful if you imagine a long tube going down your throal that is connected to a balloon in the end i.e your stomach. As you inhale, imagine the balloon filling, pushing your stomach out and feel it contracting on exhalation.

2. For anxiety any kind of grounding exercises or activity that bring your attention to the present moment is found to be useful. For me its cutting vegetables to tending to plants. Best to pick what works for you here.

Sujatha, you are quite young and you will have a lot of potential to heal. Underlying toxaemia or accumulation of toxins are some of the major reasons for anxiety attacks depression, insomnia, fear and similar issues. Correcting the food habits and living conditions is very important to bring improvement in these areas. Remove all kinds of dead animal products from your life such as dairy from the food;  that is meant for the calf and not for humans, meat and fish that is dead and lifeless, Eggs that attract viral activity in the body, refined sugar refined salt, excessive consumption of grains in the entire day, Consumption of excessive oil in cooking, eating fried food can lead to accumulation of debris in the body which putrefies and rots giving rise to all kinds of viral and bacterial activity that can impact the sleep cycles and cause nervous issues such as anxiety.  Everything in the body is based on electrical signals. If there are inflammations then short-circuiting can happen and messages can be misinterpreted by the brain.

  • Start your day with a big glass of cucumber juice made with two cucumbers, 

  • followed by a big bowl of fruits, 

  • followed by a big bowl of vegetable salads until dinner. You can have any number of servings of fruits in a day without worrying about the sugar content in it. For dinner have 30% milletsAnd 70% grains cooked without any cooking oil. 

  • Consumption of leafy greens in all forms is essential along with fruits which will help clean your system.

  • Bring yoga pranayama and meditation in your day. Connect yourself with nature by showing gratitude to the Sun by exposing yourself to the sun for about 30 minutes a day in the morning.

  • Practice happiness from within rather than expecting happiness from external sources.

Anxiety is a condition where the response to a perceived stressor threat. Often the symptoms of a panic attack are always intense and disruptive in nature. They often involve a sense of "unreality" and detachment. On the other side, panic attacks appear all of a sudden, while anxiety symptoms often become gradually more intense over a few minutes, hours, or days. Sometimes these symptoms might be side effects of some drugs when used for a prolonged duration. Anxiety, panic attacks and when these symptoms are left unattended they might turn into severe psychological conditions leading to depression too. Anxiety is a physiological problem that is caused by the chaotic world. Anxiety prepares a person to be aware of danger ahead and be prepared to face it. At times when we fail to check it at the right time, it might harm the quality of life, mainly the mental wellness and thereby affecting the physical wellness leading to various ailments. Some of the causes of these might be due to stress at work, stress from school, the stress in an interpersonal relationship such as marriage, financial stress, stress from an emotional trauma such as the death of a loved one or close one including loved pets, stress from a serious medical illness, side effects of medication or even due to abuse of social drugs such as cocaine or other narcotic substances. Also, dependency on socializing websites, phones, and serials telecasted in the television channels could as well contribute to this problem though there aren't any studies in specific relating to them.

Some natural ways to get rid of it, namely

  1. Stay active and cultivate a habit of regularly exercising, which is good for your physical and emotional health.
  2. Don't drink alcohol. Alcohol is considered to be a natural sedative and avoiding it or any stimulant will be the best policy
  3. Stop smoking and social drugs. Consumption of these could increase anxiety-related ailments

  5. Get some sleep. Some improper sleep patterns could increase the problem. It is very essential for a normal individual to have at least 7- 8 hours of sound sleep.
  6. Yoga and Meditations could be beneficial. There are some specialized practices that could be practised under the guidance of a well-trained yoga teacher.
  7. Eat a healthy diet. Avoiding oil, white food items (white sugar, maida, salt) sugared/carbonated drinks, junk foods, spices could also benefit.
  8. Practice deep breathing along with pranayama could reduce anxiety to a great level.
  9. Also if possible talk to friends.
