Hello Ritu,

Children have a habit of eating junk foods but we have to take care of their eating habits. We need to choose appropriate foods for them. Improper eating habits along with an incorrect lifestyle are the main cause of constipation.

Foods  to eat

  • Start the day with a glass of warm water. This will help to flush the toxins out of the body.
  • Include Vitamin C in your diet like amla juice or lemon juice as they have antioxidant properties.
  • Give her freshly prepared homemade fruit juices with fibers.
  • Include sprouts, salads, nuts, beans in her diet.
  • Give her soaked raisins on an empty stomach.
  • Give her fresh, seasonal, and locally available fruits and vegetables.
  • Use cold-pressed oil to cook instead of refined oils.
  • Make sure that she drinks sufficient water during the day.

Foods to avoid

  • Avoid processed and packaged foods.
  • Avoid dairy products and animal products.
  • Avoid tea, coffee, and other caffeinated drinks.
  • Keep her away from all the junk foods, street foods, deep-fried oily foods, and spicy foods.

Physical activity

Not doing any physical activity is also the reason for constipation.

  • Encourage her to indulge in outdoor games.
  • Encourage her to perform some sukshma vyayama like neck rolling, hand rolling, ankle rolling.
  • Make her perform Pranayam, specially anulom-vilom pranayam.

Sleep

Make sure that she takes a proper sleep 8 to 10 hours. Make her sleep early at night at around 10 pm and also wake her up early in the morning at around 6 am.

Thank you

Dear Ritu,

We totally appreciate your concern regarding your daughter's constipation problem. It is understandable that the child is restless because of the same! As a mother, we do understand that you would want to help your child with a quick-fix solution. You can find some remedies for constipation in our blog suggested in the resources below. However, other than that we urge you to look for a long term solution as constipation can often lead to other diseases.

Let us try to understand constipation from a Nature Cure perspective - once the food is digested the undigested matter is passed onto the large intestine. All such matter (mainly matter which cannot be used by the body, consisting of chemicals, fibre etc) is eliminated in the form of stools. When our lifestyle choices are unnatural (like wrong food habits, lack of sleep, disturbed circadian rhythm etc.), the intestine gets blocked with this undigested matter. This causes gas and hardening of the stools or constipation. Some of the waste may even be absorbed into the blood causing toxins to circulate to other parts of the body and causes further problems.

Constipation can certainly be relieved by making appropriate lifestyle choices. This would include food as well as non-food elements (like stress management, emotional health, proper rest and exercise etc.) You can explore our Nature-Nurtures Program that helps in making the transition, step by step. Our Natural Health Coach will look into your child's daily routine in a comprehensive way and give you an action plan for her. She / he will guide you on diet, sleep, exercise, stress to correct her existing routine & make it in line with Natural Laws.

In the meanwhile, please also refer to the following resources:

  1. Blog - Take control of constipation

  2. Real-life natural healing stories of people who cured digestive issues just by following Natural Laws. This one would be of specific interest to you - My child's chronic constipation frequent sickness were resolved through nature

Wishing good health for your daughter!
