Hello,

Treatment for lymphedema focuses on reducing the swelling and controlling the pain. Lymphedema treatment includes the following-

Exercises
Light exercises in which you move your affected limb may encourage lymph fluid drainage and help prepare you for everyday tasks, such as carrying groceries. Exercises shouldn't be strenuous or tire you but should focus on the gentle contraction of the muscles in your arm or leg.

Wrapping your arm or leg
Bandaging your entire limb encourages lymph fluid to flow back towards the trunk of the body. The bandage should be tightest around the fingers or toes and loosen as it moves up your arm or leg.

Massage
A special massage technique called manual lymph drainage may encourage the flow of lymph fluid out of your arm or leg. And various massage treatments will benefit in lymphedema.

Compression garments
Long sleeves or stockings made to compress your arms or legs encourage the flow of the lymph fluids out of the affected limb. Wear a compression garment when exercising the affected limb.

Take care of the affected leg
Do your best to prevent complications in your leg. Clean your skin daily, looking over every inch of your affected limb for signs of trouble, such as cracks and cuts. Apply moisturizer to prevent drying.

Diet

It will be more effective if you modify your diet to keep all the systems of your body function smoothly. For example, lymph nodes become thicker and less mobile when we are dehydrated, but flows well when we drink plenty of foods. To stay well hydrated, you should drink 64 or more ounces of water a day.

Avoid inflammation-causing foods like sugar, wheat, refined flour, soda, coffee, tea, dairy products, eggs and peanuts. Instead eat foods that counter inflammation, such as fresh green leafy vegetables, lemon, avocados, beans, sprouts, some whole grains and flax seeds.

Yoga

Yoga can improve the flow of the lymph. Practice yoga daily for atleast 20min. You can perform 12 sets of suryanamaskar. In yoga asanas, do bhujanga asana, gomukha asana, trikona asana and paschimottan asana.

Pranayam also greatly helps in improving the flow. Do kapalbhati pranayam and bhramri pranayam regularly.

Thank you
