Everything in our body can be understood by acid-alkaline balance. When we do not understand that the body is always balancing and give names to this balancing process by new disease nomenclatures, we create fear and panic of our own body and its vital power of realignment and balance.
Understanding the pH Scale
pH means the potential of Hydrogen in a solution, and pH scale represents that potential from 0 to 14.
When you dissolve acid in a solution, it gives out hydrogen ions. Measuring the number of these ions in a solution gives the test of how acidic or alkaline a solution is.
Acidity and Alkalinity are expressions of measurement on the pH scale, with neutrality expressed at the middle point of the scale, at number 7. Numbers below 7 symbolize acidity and above 7 symbolize alkalinity.
Pure water is pH 7. Water is formed by integrating hydrogen and oxygen. Water continues to absorb both acid and alkaline radicals without itself being affected This property of water lends itself to being neutral, hence water balances.
Our body’s pH balance
Our body works in a balance and equilibrium, at most times.
The most important indicator and coordinator in our body to keep all functions smoothly flowing is the Acid-Base Balance. Our body is producing acid by each and every cellular activity, whilst these cells will die if their environment is not slightly alkaline. We can say that we are “Acid-producing beings by Function and we are Alkaline beings by Design”.
Every body fluid has particles of hydrogen, hence is either acidic, alkaline or neutral. Mostly all body fluids are alkaline, with the exception of Gastric juices, which are acidic in nature. The stomach is an area where hydrochloric acid needs to break down the food we eat, hence the acid nature of the gastric juice. Alkali can neutralize the acid, and this function is used by the body, at appropriate timings.
These are the pH readings of most body fluids:
Blood 7.35 - 7.45
Gall Bladder Bile 5.50 - 7.70
Saliva 6.50 - 7.50
Duodenum Intestine 4.20 - 8.20
Gastric Juices 1.00 - 3.50
Urine and Stool 4.60 - 8.40
Pancreas - 8.00 - 8.30
Liver Bile - 7.10 - 8.50
Is my body acidic or alkaline?
We don't need to sweat over the question of whether my body is acidic or alkaline. By default, the most important function and focus of the body is to maintain the integrity of all these body fluids and overall alkalinity in the body! If our overall PH falls even slightly below 6.9 or goes slightly above 7.35, will lead to our death, which the body does not and will not allow unless we have lived a long and healthy life and our cells have grown mature or if our vitality has reduced considerably.
We need to check our habits regularly, and develop self-care and self-awareness, to understand whether we are adding acidity to our body or alkalizing our body!
(About Moonstar: A personal health crisis, in 2004 guided me to shift to hands-on work, in ecology & sustainability, from growing food to working with NHS (England), Schumacher College (UK), Findhorn (Scotland), Botanical Gardens (Auroville) and Akarma (Pollachi). Nature has been my biggest teacher, and I started a Natural healing Centre in Chandigarh, called Parshada. I am happy to guide you into a grounded and wholesome health restoration programme.)
