It takes just about 5-10 min to prepare this delicious drink. Not only does it taste good, it is very filling and healthy. It is full of nutrients, fiber and protein and is a brilliant summer cooler.

Sattu Sharbat has its origin in Bihar. Sattu powder is made with roasted black chanas. This powder is mixed along with jaggery to prepare a healthful, sweet beverage.

You could easily carry the sattu powder to get an instant cooling drink in office or while traveling!

Ingredients

  • Water: 1.5 litres (chilled or water at room temperature)
  • Sattu (roasted black chickpea flour): 6 tsp
  • Jaggery: 4 to 6 tsp
  • Black salt: to taste (optional)

Method

  • Take chilled water in 2-3 glasses.
  • Add 2 tsp Sattu in each glass.
  • Add jaggery as per taste.
  • Add a pinch of salt in these glasses (optional). For some tanginess, add few drops of lemon juice
  • Stir and mix them well.
  • Serve after mixing. Or you can even chill and serve later. The flour settles down at the bottom so stir well before serving.

Eating guide

  • Food group: Legumes
  • Best time to have: as an evening snack.
  • Kala Chana (Black chickpeas) belongs to the legume family. These are whole foods and a great addition for much-needed protein and fiber.
  • Not only a great source of protein to meet the nutritional needs of kids,it is a wonderful substitute to packaged drinks.
