Creamy Bottlegourd Basil Soup

  • 2 cups dudhi or bottlegourd
  • 1 small bunch basil leaves
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • ½ medium-sized onion
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste.


  • Shred the dudhi with the skin. Steam for a few minutes till soft.
  • Blend in a mixer with the basil leaves, pepper and the garlic cloves.
  • In a saucepan, pour the mixture and bring to a boil.
  • Add a little water if needed. Add salt as per taste.
  • Garnish with coriander. May also use tender coconut cream to garnish and add a distinct flavour.
