I have problem of gas and constipation frequently. What to do?

Hi, 

Constipation is currently a common problem due to the wrong lifestyle and improper dietary pattern.   

The gas problem occurs due to improper chewing of foods improper digestion and acidic food intake. And also related to constipation if the bowel is not cleared properly leads to fomentation gas formation. 

There are many factors that contribute to or cause constipation.

The most common causes are:

  •  Eating a diet too low in fiber.
  • Eating too few calories.
  • Not drinking enough fluids.
  • A low physical activity level.
  • Due to certain medications.

To  cure  constipation:

Behavior changes: It is best to establish a regular pattern of bowel movement. Persons having normal bowel patterns usually defecate at approximately the same time every day. Since the bowels are most active after awakening and after meals, the most optimal time for a bowel movement is usually within the first two hours after waking and after breakfast. Don’t ignore the signal to defecate.

Diet: Fiber increases stool bulk, which helps stools move through the colon. The recommended amount of fiber is 20 to 35 grams daily. Fresh Fruits, green and green leafy vegetables and cereals are an excellent source of fiber. Citrus fruits, prunes, fig, and prune juice are especially helpful.  Bloating and flatulence is a common problem with increased fiber so it is best to start slowly and increase the amount of fiber gradually.

Drinking Lauki juice, beetroot carrot juice daily in the morning also helps to relieve constipation.

Adding ginger in your food also helps to improve your digestion and helps to relieve constipation.

Insoluble fibers: Consume more insoluble fibers. Insoluble fiber is not digested by the body and is excreted as waste. This type of fiber promotes bowel regularity and discourages the development of constipation and other complication like hemorrhoids. Insoluble fibers are present in wheat bran, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and skins of vegetables and fruits.

Drink plenty of liquids: Consume more fruit juices, Fluid helps your body process fiber without any discomfort.

Include exercise or physical activity in your daily routine. Physical activity is a natural way to relieve constipation. Get up early in the morning and drink lukewarm water then go for a brisk walk or gentle jogging to help your body get hydrated and help in relieving constipation.

 Avoid Tea, coffee and other carbonated, packed /canned drinks.

 Avoid spicy, oily fried food items.

  Avoid milk and milk products.

· Avoid polished rice, sugar, and maida.

·Drinking cinnamon water 30 minutes before going to bed also helps to relieve constipation.

Consume overnight soaked figs/raisins daily.

 Include more raw vegetable salads and sprouts in your diet.

   Avoid non-vegetarian food items.

Practice regular Yogasana: Asanas like pawanamuktasana, naukasana, matsyasana, vajarasana, vakrasana, and ardhamatsyendrasana.

Practice regular pranayamas like nadishuddhi and bhramari help to reduce your stress which is also a cause for constipation.

Cold mud pack on the abdomen is also beneficial in relieving constipation.

हेलो,

कारण - पाचन क्रिया ठीक प्रकार से नहीं होने के कारण खाना ठीक से पच नहीं रहा है और गैस बन रहा है। साथ पाचन क्रिया ठीक ना हो तो आँत में inflammation होती है और मल सुख जाता है।

 1 पूरे 24 घंटे का उपवास रखें और थोड़े-थोड़े अंतराल पर  जल का सेवन करें। पानी पीते समय हर घूंट को मुंह में थोड़ी देर के लिए रखे।

2. शारीरिक और मानसिक क्रिया में संतुलन बनाए। दौड़ लगाएँ।सुप्त मत्स्येन्द्रासन, धनुरासन, पवनमुक्त आसन करें। ताड़ासन, कटिचक्रआसन, त्रीयक ताड़ासन करें। पश्चिमोत्तानासन, अर्धमत्स्येन्द्रासन, शवासन करें।

3 दिन में दो बार टोना लें, एक बार सुबह में और दूसरी बार शाम को।

उपवास के अगले दिन किसी प्राकृतिक चिकित्सक के देख रेख में टोना लें। जिससे आँत की प्रदाह को शांत किया जा सके। एनिमा किट मँगा लें। यह किट ऑनलाइन मिल जाएगा। इससे 200ml पानी गुदाद्वार से अंदर डालें और प्रेशर आने पर मल त्याग करें। ऐसा दिन में दो बार करना है अगले 21 दिनों के लिए। ये करना है ताकि शरीर में मोजुद विषाणु निष्कासित हो जाये। इसके बाद हफ़्ते में केवल एक बार लेना है उपवास के अगले दिन। टोना का फ़ायदा तभी होगा जब आहार शुद्धि करेंगे।

4 सूर्य की रोशनी में बैठे और बैठते समय सर को और चेहरे को सूती के कपड़े से ढक कर रखें पूरे शरीर पर कपड़े हटाकर धूप लगने दे। जितनी देर तक कि आराम से सह सके उतनी देर तक ही यह काम करें।

5  प्राणायाम की आवृत्तियाँ दिन में 3 बार करें।

लंबा गहरा स्वाँस अंदर भरें और रुकें। इसके बाद फिर पूरे तरीक़े से स्वाँस को ख़ाली करें, रुकें, फिर स्वाँस अंदर भरें। ये एक चक्र हुआ। ऐसे 10 चक्र एक समय पर करना है। 

6. खाना खाने से एक घंटे पहले नाभि के ऊपर गीला सूती कपड़ा लपेट कर रखें या खाना के 2 घंटे बाद भी ऐसा कर सकते हैं।

नीम के पत्ते का पेस्ट अपने नाभि पर रखें। 20मिनट तक रख कर साफ़ कर लें। मेरुदंड स्नान के लिए अगर टब ना हो तो एक मोटा तौलिया गीला कर लें बिना निचोरे उसको बिछा लें और अपने मेरुदंड को उस स्थान पर रखें।

मेरुदंड (स्पाइन) सीधा करके बैठें। हमेशा इस बात ध्यान रखें और हफ़्ते में 3 दिन मेरुदंड का स्नान करें। 

7. सब्ज़ी, सलाद, फल, मेवे, आपका मुख्य आहार होगा। आप सुबह खीरे का जूस लें, खीरा 1/2 भाग + धनिया पत्ती (10 ग्राम) पीस लें, 100 ml पानी मिला कर पीएँ। यह juice आप कई प्रकार के ले सकते हैं। पेठे (ashguard ) का जूस लें और कुछ नहीं लेना है। नारियल पानी भी ले सकते हैं। बेल का पत्ता 8 से 10 पीस कर I100ml पानी में मिला कर पीएँ। दुब घास 25 ग्राम पीस कर छान कर 100 ml पानी में मिला कर पीएँ। सब्ज़ी का जूस आपका मुख्य भोजन है। जो की आपको ज़बर्दस्त फ़ायदा करेगा। 2 घंटे बाद फल नाश्ते में लेना है। फल को चबा कर खाएँ। इसका juice ना लें।

दोपहर में 12 बजे फिर से कच्चे सब्ज़ी जूस को लें। इसके एक घंटे बाद खाना खाएँ।शाम को 5 बजे सफ़ेद पेठे (ashguard) 20 ग्राम पीस कर 100 ml पानी मिला। 2 घंटे तक कुछ ना लें। रात के सलाद में हरे पत्तेदार सब्ज़ी को डाले। ताज़ा नारियल मिलाएँ। रात का खाना 8 बजे खाएँ। 

लाल, हरा, पीला शिमला मिर्च 1/4 हिस्सा हर एक का मिलाएँ। इसे बिना नमक के खाएँ, बहुत फ़ायदा होगा। पृथ्वी तत्व को शरीर में डालने का एक नियम हमेशा याद रखें ठोस (solid) खाने को चबा कर तरल (liquid) बना कर खाएँ। तरल (liquid) को मुँह में घूँट घूँट पीएँ। खाना ज़मीन पर बैठ कर खाएँ। खाते वक़्त ना तो बात करें और ना ही TV और mobile को देखें। ठोस (solid) भोजन के तुरंत बाद या बीच बीच में जूस या पानी ना लें। भोजन हो जाने के एक घंटे बाद तरल पदार्थ (liquid) ले सकते हैं। ऐसा करने से हाज़मा कभी ख़राब नहीं होगा। जानवरों से उपलब्ध होने वाले भोजन छोड़ने से ज़्यादा लाभ होगा।

तेल, मसाला, और गेहूँ से परहेज़ करेंगे तो अच्छा होगा।

Normally there is very little scope for the formation of gas within the stomach. The high acidity of the stomach contents makes bacterial fermentation almost impossible. Even otherwise, if things are normal, the food will not stay long enough for fermentation to start. Fermentation and gas formation in the stomach is something very abnormal and is an indication that the food has stayed much too long in the stomach.
Some carbon dioxide can be formed in the stomach if there is regurgitation of the contents of the duodenum containing carbonates and bicarbonate derived from the bile, the pancreatic juice and intestinal juices, which will react with the hydrochloric acid of the gastric juice and produce gas. This also is somewhat abnormal but not uncommon.
Gas in the stomach is mainly the air which freely enters it along with the food we eat, the water we drink or the saliva which we keep swallowing, from time to time during our wakeful periods. This air, normally, should cause no problem because it is belched out when the stomach contacts. It might cause inconvenience only when the stomach loses its tone and remains in a distended form not only when it is full but even after it has become empty. Thus, it is not the accumulation of air inside the stomach which causes the distention;rather it is the other way around. It is on account of its remaining in the distended state that the stomach retains a lot of gas or air. Whenever air escapes in the form of belching there is a feeling of some relief. People, therefore, make a conscious effort to get some relief by belching out the imprisoned air. But in order to induce the belching, they have first to swallow some more air and generally, it is this swallowed air that comes out as belching. There may be a momentary sense of relief but this is illusory.
RESTORING STOMACH TONE
There is absolutely no short cuts to regain the tone of the stomach that has been lost on account of dietetic sins. The living stomach is made up of living cells. The quality of the stomach is conditioned by the quality of its constituent cells. These cells are continually subject to wear and tear and, what is even more important, they are continually being replaced, by newly formed cells taking the place of old ones which die and are cast off. So that this process of renovation continues without hindrance, we need three things (a)ready availability of the needed nourishment (b)prompt removal of toxins which are the end products of cellular activity and (c)time for rest and recuperation. The first two things are the responsibility of the bloodstream and it will be able to to do this effectively if it gets the necessary replenishment from the food we eat and the entire circulatory system is kept trim by regular physical exercise. The third requirement will be satisfied by the practice of moderation in eating and by resorting to judicious fasting.
Removing the cause /treatment
There are four things needed to ensure the restoration of the lost tone of the stomach and thus ensuring freedom from gas formation. and a healthy stomach.
(A) Good nutrition through health-giving foods, say vegetables raw and conservatively cooked without oil and spices, condiments, few nuts,seeds and beans and carbohydrates from potatoes, sweet potatoes, and limited quantities of cereals
(B)An active life or physical exercise,preferably brisk walking for weak and aged persons
(C) Adjusting the quantity of food, the frequency of the meals and also the manner of eating so that,
1.)the stomach remains empty for at least a couple of hours before each meal
2.) There's not the slightest feeling of heaviness in the stomach or upper abdomen at any time after a meal.
3.) no meal stays in the stomach for longer than five hours
4.) occasional fast of a short duration, say, a day 'a fast every fortnight.
5.) some hydrotherapy application would be of great help.
6.)  Thorough chewing of food is must, we say "eat your liquid and drink your solids. 
Spinal bath of 25 to 30 minutes twice a day will tone up the nervous system. And overall health level

Hi,

Gas and constipation are a result of old food matter which is undigested and built up in the intestines. When such matter is present in our intestines, bacteria build up and feed on this and thereby cause gastric issues.

Lets briefly understand the working of our system before we understand the lifestyle changes.

Our large intestine also called colon is about 5 feet long. The walls of the colon have muscles. Its main function is to absorb water from waste from the digestive system and then create stool (waste). The muscles of the colon propel the waste out through the rectum to be eliminated. If stool remains in the colon too long, it absorbs more water and can become hard and difficult to pass. All products which create a toxic load on the body are maida, grains, dairy, animal foods, packed and processed foods, fried and sugary foods etc. They are left undigested and incomplete evacuation leads to constipation. There may be many other reasons for constipation ranging from poor lifestyle, medications, stress. Improper dietary habits can easily be rectified by the inclusion of fibre rich foods like raw vegetable fruits and whole grains. Fruits and vegetables have soluble fibre whereas whole grains have insoluble fibre. Soluble fibre can dissolve in water and creates a soft-gel like material, whereas the insoluble fibre retains its structure and adds mass and bulk to the stool. Both these together make it easier for the formation and passage of stool through the rectum.

Short term measure

  • Include fruits like papaya, guava, melons, prunes, soaked raisins, dates.
  • Cucumber juice early morning empty stomach.
  • Hot herbal teas with added ginger or star anise.

Lifestyle changes

  • Avoid all grains, animal foods, dairy, packed, processed, sugary and fried foods. They are all difficult to digest by the body. They create a toxic environment in the body.
  • Include plenty of raw vegetables and fruits. Fruits should be taken for breakfast. Since the body is in the elimination mode and fruits are predigested, they cause minimum load on the body. They also contain fibre and help in clearing the bowels.
  • Proper rest and sleep. This helps the body to repair and recover. Our digestive system also gets rest and it can focus on the cleaning aspect of the body.
  • Physical activity every day helps clear bowels. Movement by the body is essential to get rid of waste materials.
  • Manage stress either by yoga, exposure to nature or even meditation. All these release happy hormones and the body can rest and repair.

Constipation is one of the commonest health problems with growing fast and wrong lifestyles which has become more common these days. Some of the causes may be due to junk foods you eat or avoid certain food groups especially fiber, wrong lifestyles, medications or certain diseases. Most of the time the causes have been unknown which is known as idiopathic. This health issue could disrupt your peaceful life and could have an impact on your physical and mental health when left untreated or unattended.

Gas formation might be due to irregular food timings or eating wrong and unwanted foods namely sugared drinks, junk foods, fried foods in excess quantities.

Constipation has a good scope if proper food habits and proper lifestyle are undertaken, some of those are:

  • Drink plenty of water-Dehydration could result in constipation, so it is very essential to consume enough water. Drinking a lot of fruit juices also could help you get rid of constipation.
  • Add fiber into your diet- Consumption of fiber-rich fruits and veggies could help to achieve normal health.
  • Exercise regularly- Physical activities and exercises may reduce the symptoms of constipation. Exercises like yoga, walking, jogging, etc could benefit to relieve the symptoms of constipation.
  • Avoid long sitting- People who have sedentary lifestyles should at least walk once in every hour at least.
  • Avoid Junk foods- Avoid fried foods, spicy diets specially or foods that use artificial ingredients that are used to boost up the taste, namely something mono-sodium glutamate.
  • Fruits like berries, peaches, apricots, plums, raisins are some of the best sources of high-fiber.
  • Maintain proper food Timings - It is mandatory to maintain proper food timings in order to avoid gas and also proper digestion and optimum GIT functions on track.

Other treatments :

Cold compress and mud packs on the abdomen on a regular basis could be beneficial. If you have access to Naturopathic hospital then hip bath or abdominal massages could be added benefits to relieve advanced cases.

Gyan, my father suffered from similar issues which did not get diagnosed properly. That eventually became hernia and chronic constipation, prostrate inflammations, extra growth on his penis, etc. the entire body became toxic leading to cancer and death. Not trying to create the fear, but helping you with an awareness that constipation is not a big thing to heal from when the body is fed the right fuels.

When the colon is lined with rotting waste, unwanted bacteria, and foods that were not digested properly in the stomach before coming into the colon, it putrefies in the intestines. The cause still remains the same - foods such as dairy, eggs, gluten, meat, seafood consumed over a long period of time with heavy fats and proteins that weakens the bile and the hydrochloric acid in the gut. With weaker stomach acids and ineffective weak bile, the food does not get digested properly and moves into the intestine while the pathogens feed on them. Overtime it reaches the colon which is the final dumping ground. This causes inflammation, pain constipation, diarrhea, difficulty to pass stools and can also result in piles, fissures and yeast infections on the excretory organs.

To heal this condition., It is best that you start cleaning the GUT, which in turn will clean the intestines, blood, and liver, which in turn will be ready to absorb and deliver nutrients throughout the body and eventually cleaning the entire as well. If the previous organs in the process have done their job, the colon will not have to take a hit. it’s very important that the liver starts doing its job to heal any kind of intestinal issues/organs of excretion so that the unwanted food, pathogens, and heavy metals doesn’t end up in the intestines and colon. Ideally, these are supposed to throw out naturally after altering its state, but when they end up as-is, they attract more issues in the colon which the colon might not be geared up to do.

When body organs are clean, they do their job perfectly well. With the right lifestyle, this can be achieved. You must switch to a low fat plant-based lifestyle. Low fat here because fats also come in a low percentage from raw foods like fruits vegetables and greens.

  1. Give rest to the digestion and colon by juicing majorly for few days with greens, fruit or veg juices only in abundance like it’s your meal, 3-4 liters for a week.

  2. Stop the consumption of dairy, eggs, meat,  and seafood forever in your life.

  3. Stop all forms of fats (oils, grease, nuts, and seeds ) that will add load to an already compromised liver and gi.

  4. Stop all forms of ready to eat foods that are purchased.

  5. Go raw on greens, fruits, and veggies majorly for one full month/ 2 months as conditions improve.

  6. Juices till 12, fruits for lunch, vegetables and greens chewed completely and eaten for dinner. 3-4 cups of greens.

  7. After 2 months, start your dinner with steamed veggies and then move on slowly to Cooked food only once a day without using oils or ghee with 30% grains that are gluten-free and oil-free, unpolished, unrefined and 70% vegetables. Don’t mix raw and cooked in the same meal

  8. Wheat and foods with maida, wheat has to be avoided forever.

  9. Sugar and processed sweeteners avoided.

  10. Place a cold wet towel daily on the abdomen for 30 mins. Start with 5 mins hot towel and 25 mins cold every day twice for 2 months.

  11. Exposure to sunlight for 30 mins.

  12. Yoga pranayama

  13. Practice mental peace, leading a stress-free life, free of any form of negativity

  14. Take water enema for a month without interfering with your normal bowel movements after constipation is resolved. Consult an expert as needed.

  15. Expect some infections as you are on a healthy lifestyle as the junk comes out of the body. Don’t suppress your symptoms. Only juicing to be done to relieve it.
