Dear health seeker Priyanka,

I too suffered from it right through my early age and so suffered Acharya k.l.sarma the father of nature cure in India, hereunder is the program followed by me and Acharya to get over the problem of keeping warm in winter.

"KEEPING WARM''

The winter is there with all its fury, many old age persons[like me] and weak persons, patients of some chronic diseases find it very awful to negotiate the marauding winter especially in north Indian states, some lucky ones migrate to the warmer ambiance of southern parts of the country. They may be guided by the following passage.

The secret of keeping warm is an abundance of the VITAL POWER, which can be obtained only by avoiding the wasteful expenditure of it, in the effort to digest excessive food. And the more nutritious the food is, the greater is waste, and the less is the balance available to keeping body warmth. Explained in easy terms is that one should eat light meals avoiding stimulants, such as tea, coffee, alcohol. It is easily held in popular parlance that alcoholic beverages like rum, whiskey, gin, brandy, eggs, meat, spices, etc. provide warmth, is a white lie, they may provide temporary succor from cold but the patient will quite chill after some time.
Physiologists tell that heat being produced in the cells all the time. At the same time, they say that oxidation of food substances takes place in the muscles-producing extra heat only when they contract. So there is no scientific evidence to prove that the heat produced when the muscles are at rest is due to oxidation. The true source of Vital heat is the Vital power itself.
The medical notion, that body warmth comes by the oxidation of food--essences in the body -cells, is unproved and almost disproved by experience.
The true source of the vital heat is the vital power itself.
The vital energy proceeds along the nerve--fibers, from its source in the brain to every part of the body. The blood should also be thin to allow the passage of it in the fine capillaries. It's the proper blood supply that ensures warmth all over the body.
In my own case (a chronic patient), in the days of my dependence on the doctors, I could not keep warm even in summers, eating very rich food in a large quantity as appetite permitted. I remember two summer years where I had to put on a sweater beneath my shirt to avoid onlookers and false sympathizers. Of course, this was in strict accordance with the medical teaching, alas they could have read about very important law of health which is ''LAW OF VITAL ECONOMY AS EXPOUNDED BY ACHARYA K.L. SARMA'' [I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I COULD BE INITIATED INTO NATURE -CURE OF SARMA'S]

BUT AFTER I GAVE UP THIS DEPENDENCE and became a follower of the  NATURAL WAY, there was no longer any inability to keep warm. Now I eat positive foods, including therein much less of the nourishment essences than before but more of those essences which help to eliminate foreign matter. THE POSITIVE DIET so purified and improved the blood, that it was quite equal to the task of resisting the external cold.
I may conclude by stressing the importance of maintaining a healthy vigor of the blood circulation. Healthy blood is thin being free from the viscous end products of imperfectly digested foods. These are of a sticky nature and cause the blood to become a thick and slow movement. Not only such blood does not readily circulate in the very fine blood vessels called capillaries which are the most important part of the circulatory system since it is these vessels that permeate the whole body especially the skin and contribute to bodily warmth. These substances are being prevented to be formed if the diet is sufficiently positive. And if they have been already formed they can be got rid of by changing over to a highly positive diet.

When the Vital power is very deficient, then the bodily warmth can just be increased by an improved diet but may not be sufficient unless helped by the suitable warm clothes and coverings. But if the diet is not improved then even with the warmest clothing it would be impossible to keep warm. That being the case, it is not enough to use warm clothing. It is necessary to take the diet that we recommend.

NATURE- CURE is in fact a panacea. IT IS  A ALL CURE- PATHY WITHOUT INCURRING HEAVY EXPENDITURE                                                              .--------V.S.PAWAR M.I.I.N.T.(1978)

Cold weather during winter causes muscles to lose more heat and contract,  causing tightness throughout the body. Body metabolic rate will be more and needs more food for more energy. Keeping the body warm by woolen clothes will help but, the body needs more energy to maintain the temperature.

Feeling cold during winters especially when your mercury drops beyond the normal levels is a physiological mechanism. Our body is well capable to handle these changes as the thermoregulatory centers in the brain handle these changes automatically.

Some simple ways to keep yourself warm

  1. Wear Woolen Clothes - Wear genuine woolen clothes which could keep you warm. A lot of duplicate woolen clothes are available in the market and often we get carried away by the price. Avoid going out for unwanted reasons.
  2. Keep The Cold Out. Keep your doors and windows closed during winter. Avoid using coil heaters which could drain off the oxygen levels in the home, instead, oil heaters might be recommended.
  3. Avoid Coffee, Tea, Alcohol - avoid taking alcohol or hot beverages. Instead herbal coffee or herbal tea or soups might be best substitutes for the above.
  4. Consume Diet that produces heat. Nuts like cashew, almond, peanuts, etc increase your body heat. While having food you could heat the food before having it. Consume a lot of porridge, stew, soups infrequent intervals ( slightly hot ) so that this could raise your body temperature.
  5. Sunbaths - If there is an option for sunlight, making it a point to have exposure to sunlight whenever it is possible.
  6. Keep Active through Yoga and Exercises - Brisk exercises like brisk walking, jogging, etc could generate body heat. Yoga is also an alternative form to generate body heat. The heat-generating breathing exercises ( right nostril breathing ) could increase your body heat.
