Q&A

I am 58 years old. I am a regular follower of posts in wellcure. In today's life, invariably every health advisor says that daily 30 minutes walking is good for health. But the problem is that I am at the early stage arthritis. Hence can I continue with walking or not? Whether walking further aggravates the joint pains or not? If yes, then how and what physical activity is suitable for me. Please suggest. Regards

Hello Sir,

Yes, we do recommend a brisk walk every morning in the sun, because with this exercise not only our muscle gets the boost but with the exposure to sun, our cells tend to get a good amount of nutritional value which sun gives us for example, Vitamin D.

Both walking and this exposure to the sun helps us.

As you have specified your case of arthritis we will definitely recommend you to continue with an early morning walk, but the intensity can be 50 - 70 steps per minute which are lower than regular brisk walk steps count. This we will surely help you with other exercises which will help in the improvement of your health.

Any disease like arthritis is a form of inflammation in the body which can be treated well with a holistic measure, in arthritis, all the toxic accumulation in the blood tends to make our body vulnerable to disease, with taking a step towards lifestyle change arthritis can be dealt very well.

There are four steps towards it:

Eat:

  • As in arthritis, our body starts losing out its water content in order to deal with it, it is recommended to have at least 5-6 litres of water daily, it is highly recommended to store that water in a copper vessel.
  • The next thing is to start having vegetable in the form of raw juices as it helps in absorbing nutrients easily, eating fruits and vegetables with rich water content like cucumber, musk melon, watermelon, oranges can help you with the disease.
  • To deal with inflammation in the evening you can have ginger lemon tea, with one inch of ginger crushed and boil, add lemon in it. This will help a lot in treating arthritis.

Exercise:

With the above brisk walk, you can do some exercise while sitting on a chair.

Sit on a chair and raise your one leg to 90 degrees, then raise the alternate leg. This will help in ensuring there is not much pressure on joints.

While sitting on a chair, you can twist your trunk to the opposite side, and bring to the centre, then twist again and again bring it to the centre with each breath. This will help in stretching your body.

This little exercise will help you in staying fit without straining.

Meditation:

Anything can be tackled in life when you have a positive attitude towards it before sleeping take 15 minutes deep breath relaxation and allow your self to relax.

Visualise your self to be healthy and positive. This will help you deal with pain.

Massaging your joints with coconut or almond oil will be helpful as it increases blood circulation and releases pain.

Sleep:

7-8 hours of sound sleep is helpful as it keeps our body fresh and heals our body inside out, good sleep means a healthy body.

Hopefully, this will help you a lot.

Thank you

Hello. Few things here -

  1. You must exercise regularly to help your blood circulate properly. When blood circulation is poor, it will cause more pain & stiffness in your joints.

  2. Which exercise is good? - the one that you would be happy doing. You don’t need to follow anyone else’s directions on 30 min or 1 hour etc. You have to listen to your body & enjoy the exercise.

  3. Do some physiotherapy sessions to begin with. Working with an expert will make you more confident about your health.

  4. You could also take yoga sessions with an expert instructor, specific to your condition. Mild yoga poses & breathing exercise will really help you.

  5. You can also walk. Start with walking slow & walking very short distances. Gradually increase as per comfort. You should definitely continue moving around for your chores in the home. However, if you are suffering with a lot of pain, please focus more on rest.

Exercise is one part only, making holistic changes can actually help you get cured from arthritis.
