Hello Sithembiso,

Toothache mostly results due to poor oral hygiene which is due to improper brushing and flossing. A toothache may also occur due to tooth decay, tooth fracture, abscess of tooth or infection of gums. But, a toothache can be managed in a natural way.

Here are some tips which will help you to get rid of toothache.

  • Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt with a glass of warm water and use it as a mouthwash. Saltwater is a natural disinfectant and it can help loosen the food particles and debris that may be stuck in between your teeth.
  • Mix 3 percent hydrogen peroxide with equal parts of water and use it as a mouthwash. It will help to remove pain and inflammation.
  • Hold a towel - wrapped bag of ice to the affected area for 20 minutes at a time. You can repeat it every few hours. This cold compress will help to remove any pain.
  • Crush a garlic clove to make its paste and apply it to the affected area. It will kill the bacteria that may cause dental plaque.
  • Dab a small amount of clove oil onto a cotton ball and apply it to the affected area. Do this few times a day.
  • Brush your teeth properly twice a day.
  • Do flossing daily.

Diet

Apart from the above tips which will help you to get relief from pain and inflammation, diet is also important.

  • Eat only plant-based natural foods.
  • Avoid sugars and sugary foods.
  • Avoid caffeinated drinks and also carbonated drinks.
  • Avoid processed, packaged, preserved and oily foods.

Thank you
