Hi Raghavendra Reddy N,

Thank you for sharing your concern with us.

The eyes adapt to how they are being used. As the saying goes – Use it or lose it; slowly the eyes start adapting to close distance work and start losing the ability to focus and work well for long-distance viewing. This is the beginning of myopia or short sight. Diet & lifestyle changes not only help in improving your vision but also offer you numerous other health benefits.

Here are some practical tips that you can follow:

1. Every 20 minutes, while working on a computer screen, take a break for 20 seconds and focus on something 20 feet away.

2. While working on a desktop/laptop, take regular breaks and blink your eyes frequently, to avoid drying of the eyes.

3. Place screens on eye level to avoid straining the neck, shoulders, and eyes.

4. Press both your palms on your eyes gently for a few seconds to relieve eye strain.

5. Do neck and should rotations to relax stiff muscles and improve blood circulation to the head.

6. Follow a good clean & plant based diet.

Namaste Raghavendra,
Thank you for sharing your concern with us.
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness is an eye disorder where light focuses in front of instead of the retina. This causes distant objects to appear blurry and close objects to appear normal. Other symptoms include headaches and eye strain.
The following tips will help you to promote eye health.
1. A diet rich in Zinc, copper, selenium, and Vitamin C, E and A are essential for eye health: Including lemon, oranges, blueberries, amla, soaked raisins.
2. Take a pen and put it at a distance in front of your eyes. Slowly move it towards the eyes and keep your complete focus on the pen. Then again move it slowly to some distance. Repeat this 5 times and practice this exercise regularly.
3. Sleep with your head elevated. Use a pillow that will keep your head raised for about 20 degrees and it has been known to decrease intraocular pressure while you sleep.

For More guidance, you can come for a consultation with Dr M. Sathish Kumar an Eye Expert
